It seems that every self respecting food blogger has a favorite smoothie recipe these days. And yes, I'll admit that I've jumped on the bandwagon here. I love really taking the time to savor fresh foods, and preparing recipes with care, but some times, it is extremely convenient to drink a smoothie instead. But if you're like me, you avoid cleaning the blender as long as possible. I got the easiest blender to clean that I could find, but it is still a pain to get in between all the seams and carefully set it aside somewhere to air dry so it doesn't collect water and bacteria. And that brings up the problem of where to even keep it, considering counter space in NY is a bit of a premium (if you have enough room for more than one of your kitchen gadgets out at the same time, just don't let me know, OK?)
So, while I love a good smoothie -- and there are some good subscriptions for fresh smoothie ingredients (hey, even Nextdoorganics had a smoothie package at one point a few years ago, maybe we can bring it back in the future, who knows) -- It's not something that I'm doing every day, unless I'm paying $3-5 for a bottled drink at the grocery (that usually has more sugar than I'd like). That's why I was so excited when Tomas reached out to me and told me about his Organic smart drink subscription service that he wants to bring to NY.
Kencko is a powdered smart drink mix, made while only 100% Organic fruits and veggies, ready to mix with water, milk, or anything that you like. It comes with a simple measuring cup for mixing, and it's a super convenient way to drink your veggies whenever you like. Being that it's in powdered form, it's great for those who travel a lot as you can take it with you in your carry-on luggage on the plane. Sure, it's not necessarily a "smoothie" per say, but if you like a really thick smoothie, you can always mix in some yogurt and/or crushed ice to kick it up a notch so it's up to you how to use it.
So, a few weeks ago, after I got home from a weekend trip with the family, I found a Kencko box waiting for me. The packaging was simple and beautiful. All in all I would say a good first impression and user experience so far.
REDS (Strawberry, raspberry, banana, apple)
PURPLES (Blackberry, Blueberry, Raspberry, Cranberry, Banana)
ORANGES (Orange, Carrot, Banana, Pineapple, Turmeric, Ginger)
GREENS (Spinach, Banana, Apple, Kiwi, Spirulina, Ginger)
BLACKS (Banana, Acai, Mango, Apple, Pineapple)
BURGUNDY (Beets, Blackberry, Banana, Blueberry, Ginger)
Here's a photo of a Burgundy smart drink that I made the other day
Since I didn't have to clean a blender, I had time (and counter space) to arrange a couple beets and a piece of ginger for a photo shoot!
Clearly, the convenience is probably the best part of this, but aside from the convenience and beautiful minimal packaging, Kencko is also committed to working with only Organic farms around the world and a portion of every sale goes to fight malnutrition around the world! As you all know, I am a huge supporter of buying fresh from local farms, and I don't see this as a replacement for that. This is a great addition to your local farm share, and much better than supporting those bottled drinks that you always end up buying at the store anyway. You purchase it as a monthly subscription so you're always able to keep stocked, and if you have too much, you can pause or cancel at any time. Right now, there is a 10 pack available, but 30 and 60 unit boxes will be available soon.
So I am helping to bring Kencko to the US and was able to get a discount for Nextdoorganics members. If you use coupon code KSBKLYN you'll get a 10% discount on your order. For your convenience, you can click through to the Kencko ordering page from the Nextdoorganics webstore, or you can just go straight to Kencko.com, but don't forget to enter the code!Get Kencko
